Sony group companies, Aniplex of America and streaming service Crunchyroll, will start simulcasting the anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” on April 9.
Crunchyroll will stream new episodes weekly in available regions, exclusively in North America, South America, and Europe.
The original manga series, published by Shueisha’s Jump Comics, consists of 23 volumes and has sold over 150 million copies. The animation is produced by Ufotable.
The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by a demon. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his younger sister, Nezuko, back into a human after she transforms into a demon.
The release of the new TV series comes after the success of the “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” feature film in multiple territories. In February 2023, the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village” film had worldwide theatrical screenings, grossing over $30 million in Japan and $10 million in North America.
In the new TV series, Tanjiro reunites with two Hashira, the highest-ranking swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps, in a new location. With the presence of lurking demons, a new battle begins for Tanjiro and his comrades.
The voice cast includes Hanae Natsuki as Kamado Tanjiro, Kito Akari as Kamado Nezuko, Shimono Hiro as Agatsuma Zenitsu, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Hashibira Inosuke, Kawanishi Kengo as Tokito Muichiro, Hanazawa Kana as Kanroji Mitsuri, Okamoto Nobuhiko as Genya, Furukawa Toshio as Hantengu, and Toriumi Kousuke as Gyokko.
The release of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” adds to the exciting month for Japanese anime in North America, with the upcoming release of Shinkai Makoto’s “Suzume” in theaters on April 14, following its success in Japan, China, and South Korea.
