Sebastian Vettel gave a glimpse into the main obstacles and important goals that Aston Martin will confront in 2022 following the debut of the team’s new car.
Sebastian Vettel has highlighted Aston Martin’s major goals and targets for the 2022 Formula One season.
Following the unveiling of the team’s new car last week, Vettel confesses that one of the most difficult aspects of the forthcoming season will be adapting to the new technical rules that will be implemented in the sport.
“I think from a driving point of view, the main challenge for all of us will be adapting to these cars,” Vettel told media including RacingNews365.com.
“They feel a bit different driving in the sim (simulator), but I think it will be different in real life.”
Key objectives for 2022 season
With this in mind, the four-time World Champion believes it will be tough to define the team’s goals.
“I think it depends where we are,” he added.
“Ideally, the challenge will be to fight for victories and a lot of podiums, because we are so competitive. But at this point, I don’t have any expectation because, right now, you [can only] look at the car.
“We’ve only seen fakes until today, but you have no idea what is right and what is wrong. So I think we need to relate some lap times and some track experience to it, and then we get a better impression. So I think the goals follow, sort of, where we are.”
Despite the uncertainties surrounding Aston Martin’s 2022 prospects, Vettel believes the company can improve and demonstrate its effectiveness.
The German explained: “One of the key goals, or one of the key objectives, for this year is to show that we are working, we are a working structure, and we can either build a very good car from the start, or improve our car throughout the season. Or do both!”
