In FP2, the Frenchman set a time of 2m02.542s to defeat Ducati’s Jack Miller by almost 0.2s, with defending championship Fabio Quartararo jumping up to third with a time of 2m02.837s late on.

At the Racetrack of the Americas, the 2nd 45-minute practise session of the week apparently happened in excellent conditions, with lap times immediately beating the best from FP1.

Enea Bastianini of Gresini maintained Ducati’s solid afternoon by finishing fourth on his 2021-spec bike, while Suzuki’s Alex Rins finished fifth.

Marc Marquez finished sixth on the manufacturer Honda, 0.499s off the lead, with Maverick Vinales, the one and only Aprilia inside the top ten, in 7th position at COTA.

Joan Mir’s sister Suzuki rounded out the top ten, with Francesco Bagnaia on the manufacturer Ducati leading Pramac’s Jorge Martin in ninth and tenth, respectively, despite not running a fresh soft rear tyre at the conclusion of FP2 and instead sticking with the medium.

Aleix Espargaro, the Argentine championship winner, is presently 11th in preliminary Q1 after missing the top 10 by 0.015s on his Aprilia – though conditions could permit for combined timesheet advancements in FP3 on Saturday morning.
